Our name refers to slate, as in the smooth, gray stone, which historically was used as a writing surface for keeping records and planning, and a bridge as in a structure to get you to the other side of an obstacle. We believe this perfectly represents the spirit of our firm - reaching destinations through effective planning.

Through years of working with local and Big 4 CPA firms, as well as leading tax departments for some of Oregon’s large businesses, SlateBridge founder, Ben Mathias, CPA, identified a desire in the market for a tax advisor that goes beyond the minimum compliance requirements. Ben developed a new approach to providing tax services that breaks with the traditional model by emphasizing hands-on strategic planning and analysis of potential improvements to clients’ overall tax scenarios, while providing premium quality service. As an active member in the community, Ben can be found on the baseball field coaching little league and he previously volunteered for several years on the Board of a non-profit that brings arts education to Oregon schools. He enjoys golfing, motorcycles, and is an avid reader and student of U.S. history.

Ben is supported by his wife Briana (also a CPA), who splits her time providing accounting and CFO services to local businesses while also acting as a commercial real estate broker in the Portland market.
